Life of Jaggery Workers
Location
Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Maharashtra, is rich in history and food culture, where my photography journey began. While exploring local traditions, I documented the jaggery-making process in Chikhali village’s traditional Gurhal houses. Jaggery is made by extracting and boiling sugarcane juice, using leftover cane as fuel. Workers stir the thickening juice until it solidifies into molds for cooling. Capturing this process took me two years, countless photos, and dedication. Through my lens, I revealed a unique Kolhapur that the world can admire.
