Red Festival

Veer

Maharashtra

The village of Veer (Purandar, Pune) houses the revered Srinath Mhaskoba temple, built in the grand ‘Deulwada’ style with stone construction. The annual wedding of Srinath Mhaskoba and Goddess Jogeshwari is celebrated in Magh with great enthusiasm. The festival begins on Magh Shuddha Chaturdashi with a turmeric ceremony, followed by village-wide fasting and festivities. On the full moon day, devotees break their fast with Puranpoli and a grand Mahaprasad by the Dhumal family. Palkhis arrive from various villages, and a ten-day procession follows. Predictions for the year are made from Panchami to Dashami. On Mahashivaratri, the temple is washed with coconut water and worshiped with traditional rituals.
